UIDAI Services: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (“Aadhaar Act 2016”) on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Under the Aadhaar Act 2016, UIDAI is responsible for Aadhaar enrolment and authentication, including operation and management of all stages of the Aadhaar life cycle, developing the policy, procedure, and system for issuing Aadhaar numbers to individuals and performing authentication and the security of identity information and authentication records of individuals.

UIDAI’s objective is to issue an Aadhaar number to every resident in India so as to enable residents with a portable identity which can be authenticated anytime anywhere. The Aadhaar platform helps service providers authenticate the identity of residents electronically, in a safe and quick manner, making service delivery more cost-effective and efficient. Following additional services are available to the Aadhaar number holders and service providers:
Verify Aadhaar Number: This will enable service providers and Aadhaar number holders to verify if the Aadhaar number is valid and is not deactivated
Verify Email/Mobile Number: Aadhaar number holder’s registered mobile number is essential to access Aadhaar online services as well as Aadhaar enabled benefits. Residents can verify their already registered email address and mobile number
Lock/Unlock Biometrics: Aadhaar number holders can secure their biometric authentication by locking their biometrics. Once locked, the same cannot be used by anyone for authentication. Residents can unlock their biometrics before any biometric authentication transaction.
Check Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status: Aadhaar holders can check if their Aadhaar is linked to their bank account. Aadhaar Linking status is fetched from NPCI Server. Under any circumstance, UIDAI shall not be responsible or liable for the correctness of the displayed status. Further, UIDAI is not storing any information fetched from the NPCI server.
Aadhaar Authentication History: Aadhaar number holders can view the details of Aadhaar Authentication they have done.
Offline Aadhaar Data Verification: It is a secure sharable document which can be used by any Aadhaar number holder for offline verification of Identification.
Virtual ID Generator: Aadhaar Number holders can generate their 16 Digit Virtual ID(VID).
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI has introduced a service called “Aadhaar Services on SMS” which enables Aadhaar Number holders, who do not have access to the internet/resident portal/m-Aadhaar etc. to use various Aadhaar services like Virtual ID generation/retrieval, Aadhaar lock/unlock, Biometric lock/unlock etc. through SMS.
Residents can avail of these Aadhaar Services by sending an SMS from Registered Mobile to 1947 in the format mentioned below:
To Generate – Virtual ID
GVIDAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits
For example, if the Aadhaar number is 1234-5678-9123 then
SMS – GVID 9123 and send it to 1947
To Retrieve – Virtual ID
RVIDAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits

This service can be availed by passing Virtual ID ONLY
In case of multiple Aadhaar Numbers linked to the same mobile number, and when the last 6 digits of the Virtual IDs are some for at least 2 dependents, then the second SMS to be sent as:
